About the Mapmaker:
All of the maps you see here have been personally illustrated by cartographer Christopher West.
Chris got his start in the hobby game industry back in the year 2000 when he began illustrating maps on a freelance basis for Dungeon Magazine and other publications by industry leader Wizards of the Coast. Since then he has developed original maps for brands such as Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, d20 Modern, Alternity, Pathfinder, Numenera, Mutants and Masterminds, and countless others.
Chris holds a BFA degree in Applied Media Arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he learned to use Adobe Photoshop before the program had any professors trained to teach it. He still uses it today in all of his cartography work.
While he still does freelance work on the side, most of his time now goes into producing new map content for direct sale to miniatures gamers and RPG players from his small home studio in northwestern Pennsylvania.
About the Maps:
Maps of Mastery poster maps and terrain cards are designed on a subtle but noticeable 1-inch grid for use with most miniatures games and tabletop RPGs. Many of them feature fine colored terrain lines to help players distinguish at a glance between walls (red) and pits (orange), objects that provide cover (green) and objects that impede movement (yellow). Doors have light blue rectangular markings, while locked or sealed hatches have the same rectangles but in the same red color as the walls.
Product cover images are also color-coded: A blue background means the product was designed primarily for science fiction gaming. Orange suggests a Fantasy theme. Green indicates that the product should be equally at home in a sci-fi, fantasy, or even modern setting. As products with a very modern, urban theme appear in the store, their covers will share a gray background.
